Hi, I’m Cheryl Somers
Therapist, Teacher, Mom
I specialize in helping women of all ages get their anxiety in check, set better boundaries with parents & friends, and break free from patterns of perfectionism and people-pleasing that may have started in childhood. Together, we will work on building confidence, shaking off the self-doubt, and creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.
Therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who truly gets it—someone who listens without judgment but also helps you figure out what’s next. I bring not only my training as a therapist but also my lived experience as a former teacher and a mom of two adult daughters. I know that life is complicated, and you’re here because you want tools and strategies to navigate it—not just to talk about it.
I have spent most of my career working with teenagers, young adults, and moms of teenagers. I do my best work with clients I can connect with and who are ready to dig deep and make meaningful changes in their lives. Whether it's teenagers, college students, or moms in their 50s, I love helping women let go of the expectations of others, say goodbye to old perfectionist/people-pleasing patterns, set meaningful boundaries, and start living a life they love!
Whether you're struggling with unmanaged anxiety, family expectations, relationships that aren’t working, parenting, caring for aging parents or just the overwhelm of life, I can offer you an unbiased, outside perspective and practical strategies to help you move forward with more purpose and more confidence.
My appproach to therapy reflects all sides of me -- therapist, teacher, and mom. I am an active listener, fully engaged in understanding your thoughts and emotions. My goal is not to simply listen, though. My goal is to notice patterns, inconsistencies or recurring themes in our conversations so that we can explore those in more depth. I find that the greatest insights often come from highlighting your own patterns so you can take a hard look at what's serving you well and what needs to change. In our sessions, my tone is warm and adaptable, incorporating humor, enthusiasm, respect, and calmness to create a comfortable space for growth. I am always on the lookout for your strengths and will frequently highlight and reflect them back to you in an effort to show you that you are already far more capable than you might believe.
Our work together isn’t just about venting or going in circles—we’ll focus on real solutions. While processing emotions and understanding your past is important, I also want you to walk away from each session with practical tools and a clearer path forward. Whether it’s tackling anxiety, handling difficult conversations and setting boundaries with your loved ones, or making decisions that align with your values, my goal is to help you take meaningful steps toward the life you want.
